Bradley is currently dating Sandra Dane, a 25-year old interior designer who's new to the Magister world and not in-the-know about all of Bradley's bad habits. Sandra was a virgin until a few months ago when Bradley convinced her to let him change that. She thinks Bradley is wonderful until she's lost in a pair of green eyes just before meeting the Magisters at a house party. She doesn't know who he is, but Bradley stopped existing with that one look. Dinner reveals the green eyes belong to none other than Charles Magister himself, and he's as lost as she is.
Charles hasn't been in a relationship since the death of his wife 10 years ago, and Sandra is supposed to be in one with his nephew. How do you bring two such people together in a quiet relationship of their own? For the man in control, it may prove to be a nightmare. For this woman of his dreams, it may prove a rude awakening.
Come And Get Me #2
Sandra's working on trying to get a rare piece of porcelain to replace one long lost from Charles' collection. This requires her to set up a trade in Hong Kong with a dealer. Charles goes along for business and pleasure but loses his temper when the dealer asks for something that has become precious to Charles
The family is in the spotlight for the big event of brother Stephen's marriage to Craig. A suitable escort (an old flame) is provided for Charles by sister Rosalie for the wedding and neither Charles nor Sandra is happy. They're both tired of having to keep their relationship a secret and sneaking around. A photographer catches too much with his lens and life for Charles and Sandra is no longer about sneaking around to see each other.
Prove You Love Me #3
Bradley's been up to his old tricks and he's in jail. Only this time, Uncle Charles decides not to bail him out, hoping that having to pay for his sins will teach him something. Bradley and his dead beat Dad try to blackmail Charles. When that doesn't work, Rosalie is convinced Charles is doing this because of Sandra and takes the photos to the NYT!
Sandra holds a press conference without discussing it with Charles and puts her own slant on things. Then Sandra's health fails her and she collapses in front of Charles' front door with lots of paparazzi as witnesses. Charles tries to do what's right for her and tells her she should leave him, so, heartbroken, she does.
And Charles gets drunk.
Have And Hold Me #4
Sandra goes home to her parents' place in upstate NY to recuperate. She attends a party and is caught on someone's phone camera kissing an old friend. It gets put on YouTube and shown to Charles. Who wastes no time driving there. Sandra and Charles finally have a chance to talk things out and figure out what they want together if only her father doesn't shoot him first with her mother's shotgun.
They finally have a chance to be together and be real people. Then they return to the city and decide to come out to the world. They go out on the town on New Year's Eve.
This is the story of Sandra's boss, Arnaud Diablo, and her sister, Kristen Dane. They flit in and out of the first four books as secondary characters, support for Sandra. Here is their own story.
In the whole series, the elegance and richness, the fancy clothes and expensive wines and liquors are all the perfect setting for this extremely powerful man. It's not just his money that makes him powerful. You feel the strength of Charles' personality and the attraction between Sandra and him. As each secondary character plays their part you see them move into his sphere of influence and out. Charles Magister is such a strong character, bigger than life, that even Sandra seems to be secondary to him at times. But definitely, the whole series revolves around these two people and their involvement.
In five books, there wasn't a dull moment. Ms. Hall had things happening constantly that kept this a fast-moving, interesting story. I don't usually like books that have cliffhangers that require you to buy the next book and the next to get the whole story, but this author told you up front that's what was happening. And each book was approximately 350-500 pages long, other than the novella. You definitely got your money's worth. So, if you like big books full of twisty stories and lots of crises and hot, steamy sex, try this series by July Hall.
The first book was a BookBub acquisition from Amazon, but the rest were purchased at full price after reading the synopsis and explanation of the four books. I am receiving no compensation for my honest review. All opinions are fully my own.~ Judi E. Easley for Blue Cat Review
