Louise Roe - Style Staples

Louise Roe has a distinct style and has just released a  book about it! Louise Roe - Style Staples
Over50Styling!
Louise Roe is young and very much a part of the in fashion scene right now. She has a distinct fashion style. She wears clothes with classic lines. Her clothes have details that set them apart. She stays on top of trends to maintain her edge, but is not a slave to the trends. She makes them her own. She wears her clothes with a casual attitude. She puts me very much in mind of Audrey Hepburn in the way she wears clothes. Let's take a look at this particular look. It's not a LBD, but it's all black!
Start with a loose but not oversized black t-shirt with a rounded neckline. Tuck that into a black midi pencil skirt with detailing down the side. Add fine gold jewelry in an understated way. Nothing bold or oversized here. Slip into black pumps covered in tiny round studs. They are a medium heel, not stilettos. Slip on large black celebrity type sunglasses. Add a moto style black leather jacket worn thrown over the shoulders. The final item is a slim clutch on a chain to wear over the shoulder.
It's all discrete and rather ladylike.

Pastels Casual

Over50Styling! The world smiles in flowers! Wear all the flowers or floral colors in the spring! Pastels Casual

Over50Styling!
Don't you just love to see bouquets of spring flowers everywhere after the long cold winter. They cheer you with their lovely colors! So wear their colors, all their colors!
Pick a floral piece like this camisole and add solid pieces to mix it up with the colors from the print.

Is it Gray or Is it B&W? Whichever it is, it Needs Some Fun!

Over50Styling! Gray and B&W are another stand-by that tends to need some help in the color pop department!Gray Casual

Over50Styling!
How do you help a gray outfit? Well, add B&W that looks like gray (slacks) for visual texture. Add B&W that doesn't look like gray (shoes) for interest. Add a strong color to lift the outfit out of the doldrums (cardigan, earrings, handbag). Add another color to your color pop (pin).

Midweek Casual Look

Over50Styling! Put a little color in your khaki look! Khaki Casual

Over50Styling!
The spring blue and white stripes are perfect for adding that much needed pop of color and visual texture to the good old stand-by of khakis. And as you can see, it can be added in  many little ways!

Trending: Graphic Sweatshirts

Over50Styling! Graphic sweatshirts bring sweatshirts out of the sports category into the fashion field! Trending: Graphic Sweatshirts

Over50Styling!
Another outfit with a graphic sweatshirt done with the colors in the shirt makes for a bold look!
That's stylin'!

go graphic in style!

Over50Styling! Let's see, we have graphic t-shirts, graphic clutches and totes, and now we have graphic sweatshirts!go graphic in style!

Over50Styling!
Graphic sweatshirts! And you can wear them with all sorts of unexpected things these days. At least they were unexpected for me when I first started seeing the combinations.
A white leather pencil skirt and a sweatshirt - is that unexpected? The trick is to really utilize your colors to create a color scheme, I think. Otherwise it's just a bunch of clothes thrown together. So the shoes and bag are in the brown and black tones. The sunglasses are the black and white. And only the earrings are red to pick up the red in the shirt. AND DON'T FORGET TO PUSH UP THE SLEEVES!
That's stylin'!

Pretty as a Picture

Over50Styling! Another white blouse look, always crisp and neat! Pretty as a Picture

Over50Styling!
It seems as if any time you use a white blouse in an outfit, it creates a neat and crisp appearance. It certainly does with this outfit. The floral skirt and pretty purple sweater take on that neat and crisp tone with the white blouse. The ladylike white and floral handbag adds to the overall tone of the outfit. The patent sandals and sparkly earrings add some shine.

Happy Monday! Be so amazing today, that people will have to smile back at you!

Over50Styling! You can't help but smile if you're wearing a dress that looks like a sunbeam with rainbows on it! be your own sunbeam!

Over50Styling!
A dress like this has to bring a smile to your face. So wear it and the world will smile back!
This dress doesn't need a lot of embellishment, even though I've put a statement necklace and coordinating earrings with it. It would look just as great with simple earrings and necklace. The fabric in the dress does it all. So just add the yellow pumps and soft green clutch and go!
That's stylin'!

Welcome to Monday!

Over50Styling! It's Monday and I am amazing! So are you!Beware of Sharks!

Over50Styling!
We're getting to the time when events will be planned around summer houses and boats. Or they will be held at restaurants with a pier-side view. Having a nautical look can be fun! But you don't have to wear red, white and blue or white sailor pants.
This yellow striped t-dress with the blue cardigan makes a snappy combo. The yellow and white stripes are unexpected, but work really well into the nautical theme. Especially when you add in the sensible and comfortable but chic navy and white striped flats. The blue and white striped watch and earrings are added for fun, but they emphasize the theme a bit more. The design on the fold-over clutch looks like a fisherman's net, and that certainly works with the theme, too! The laugh comes in with the tote to carry anything else you might need to have for the event. The stripes and water with the statement will get chuckles from even the toughest crowd! And all you need to do is smile back from behind your bright yellow sunglasses!

Spring Sunshine & Flowers

Over50Styling! Wearing yellow is like carrying the sunshine with you on a day that it may not be shining! Spring Sunshine & Flowers

Over50Styling!
Yellow denim shorts and a black tank covered with yellow flowers topped by a short yellow jacket are a great beginning to a sunshine outfit! Slip into yellow shoes. Add yellow floral earrings and yellow sunnies! Grab a black and white striped handbag with a polka dot bow and you're all set to shine!

I'm breaking out in dots!

Over50Styling! More polka dots and white denim for your weekend! I'm breaking out in dots!

Over50Styling!
Polka dots are certainly trending this spring! Start with white jeans, add a black polka dot camisole and a lime green shrug. This pretty green necklace is all circles and looks like more polka dots! Slip into little black and white ballet flats and grab a polka dot handbag! That's trending!
That's stylin'!

Loose shrug, $9.99 / Dolce Gabbana lace camisole, $695 / Goldsign white torn jeans, $340 / Express pointy toe flat, $20 / Chunky mint necklace, $15, Sorry, but the handbag is no longer available.

Let the Sun Shine In!

Over50styling! As the weather warms up, we think of shorts! Let the Sun Shine In!

Over50Styling!
You can buy denim shorts or you can tear up your oldest, most disreputable pair of jeans for free. Measure the inseam and allow 2" more for the cuff, cut, then wash to fray them nicely.
A yellow tank and a pink and white striped blouse with the sleeves rolled back over denim shorts makes for a delightful look. Add in the multicolor pastel Valentino sandals and handbag for a wonderful allover look. A pink stone bracelet and pink sunnies add that something extra to the look.
If you, like me, don't normally carry Valentino handbags or wear Valentino sandals, I would choose either the pink or blue for sandals, then a handbag in the other color in your favorite brand.

Geometric in Blue & Silver

Over50Styling! A long slide of geometry in navy blue and grays matched up with elements that are as structural as it is! Geometric in Blue & Silver

Over50Styling!
This long slide of geometric navy and gray will be as comfortable as a t-shirt. I've add earrings that look nailed onto your ear and a bracelet that could be architectural strapping except for it's lovely sparkle. The blue suede heels have lovely lines any architect would admire, as does the three toned clutch.

It's Thursday, but there's no LBD!

Over50Styling! Navy and black make a stunning combination! It's black, but it's no LBD...

Over50Styling!
Usually when we wear black, or B&W, we use a bright or light color for an accent. Using navy blue as an accent gives you a sophisticated look, even when you are layering on the patterns.
Here I've used black leggings and a lovely navy tiered top. Over that I've put a B&W plaid shirt. Over that I've layered a B&W large polka dot cotton jacket. Keep the shirt collar inside the jacket and fold back both cuffs together. Now, slide into these wonderful B&W striped and bowed flats. Pop in the substantial silver hoops. And grab the all black handbag. You're ready to take on the world!
That's stylin'!

stand out or blend in...

Over50Styling! Sometimes you want to blend into the crowd, but others you certainly want to stand out! stand out or blend in...

Over50Styling!
Certainly this is an outfit that will make you stand out in a crowd, unless you happen to be standing in front of some very green shrubbery, that is!
This abstract green top sits nicely over the waist of a tailored denim skirt. The denim jacket is standard cut and has a crown pin on it with some lovely green stones to add a bit of sparkle. Now add some gold hoop earrings and a substantial gold watch. Grab a two tone blue bag. Pop on great blue sunnies and slide into lovely green open-toed heels! Yup, you'll stand out!

Soft Spring Pastels for Midweek

Over50Styling! Soft pastels are such a pretty look even when they aren't don't in pretty spring dresses. Add a crisp pair of white jeans and you still have a fabulous spring look! Soft Spring Pastels for Midweek

Over50Styling!
Mixing peaches, pinks and blushes in your pastels is one of the fun things about spring pastels! They all look great together, especially with a healthy helping of soft minty green! You layer and mix and match and the look just gets better!

"All tied up in ribbons and bows"

Over50Styling! With a fairly simple outfit, it's the details that make it work. "All tied up in ribbons and bows"

Over50Styling!
A simple outfit of black and white slacks and a gray chiffon tiered blouse. Pretty basic. Add beige and black heels with a bow and a beige and black print handbag and you have a smart outfit. Add in some sparkly bow earrings and necklace and you have a smart outfit with a bit of fun!

Red & White to the Max(i)

Over50Styling! Bright red roses on a wonderful swirl of a skirt? That's stylin'! Red & White to the Max(i)

Over50Styling!
What could be more fun that a swirl of bright red roses around your legs all the way to your ankles? This lovely Dolce and Gabbana skirt will do the trick! I added the D&G shoes as well, but it would work well with red or green shoes or a pair of pretty sandals. I topped it with a tailored white crop top that fits just at the waist of the skirt so there are no gaps and a bright red shrug for arm coverage. The jewelry is all red and roses to continue the theme. And the handbag is a black square with a huge red dot for fun! The red and white polka dotted sunglasses add in another spring trend. And the headscarf is another spot of fun or for those days when you just can't or can't be bothered to get your hair to cooperate.
That's stylin'!

I am seeing SPOTS!

Over50Styling! Polka dots are one of the perenniel spring motifs!  I am seeing SPOTS!

Over50Styling!
Spring brings out flowers, bright colors, all white clothes and polka dots!
Putting dots together with other dots in one outfit can be fun, but it can also seem sort of scary. Start in small ways to add dots to dots like the small dots in the skirt and the shoes. Then I added the small dots in the hat, and the earrings are just round studs. You can't quite see the dots on the sunglasses because they are so small, but they are there! And the dots on the handbag are a bit mixed. The bracelet is another circle of round studs like the earrings, but that makes them polka dots, too! Break it up a bit with some stripes! Now, step back and take a look!
That's stylin'!

Go for the Bold!

Over50Styling! Mixing patterns is still with us this season and more fun in some of the bright spring colors! Go for the Bold!

Over50Styling!
I put this palm print pencil skirt with the striped top and it was really BOLD! So to calm it down a bit, I topped it all with a long chiffon duster in the cobalt blue. This ties the two pieces together a bit more and cuts down on how much of the bold combination you can see by half. So the really bold combo is only visible in the open front of the duster and more as you move. The shoes were a great match up with all the colors. The handbag was another bit of calming influence here for its sensible style, but the color is great with it all. And the necklace brings all the colors up from the skirt to the neckline.
SO,
how are you going to adjust the amount of bold you show in this outfit? The handbag is an easy one - choose a bolder one. The duster is another way to do it. You could go with a blazer or cardigan in a shorter style that allows more of the bold combo to show. Or, if you are really into bold, don't wear anything over the skirt and top.
How bold are you?

Spring Floral

Over50Styling! Spring dresses are popping up in florals! Maxidresses, too! Spring Floral

Over50Styling!
A lovely floral maxidress is great this spring for almost any event or even non-event! You can go anywhere in them or just hang out in them. They look fabulous and are so comfortable that you can almost forget you are in a dress! Add one to your wardrobe in a wonderful floral print just for spring!

Bird of Paradise

Over50Styling! Strut your stuff in this fabulous dress! Bird of Paradise

Over50Styling!
Imagine walking through a crowded room with this dress on... heads would turn and look your way. Interest kindles in male eyes and women want to know how you do that! This is one of those dresses that fits your body smoothly and lets it move. A royal purple long cardigan keeps the flow moving. Lime accents of color add a spark! And these black and white sandals are just for kicking up your heels!

A Neat Little Dress to Start Off the Week!

Over50Styling! A neat little shirtdress to go just about anywhere! Green in the Garden

Over50Styling!
Such a simple outfit, but we hit several trends with it! With some it's the item itself and for others it's the way we've styled it.
Starting at the top, we have our broad brimmed hat. A big spring trend this year. Secondly, is the statement necklace worn tucked under the collar of the dress with all the buttons buttoned. Then it's the knotted leather belt at the waist. And finally, we're stepping out in leather clogs! And these are great clogs! Look at the leather uppers on them with the great cut!
That's stylin'!

Got curves? Get stripes!

Over50Styling! One more B&W to take with you for the weekend! Got curves? Get stripes!

Over50Styling!
Who out there has curves? I do! I do! Not as much as some, but more than some others! Nothing ever fits my waist because I have hips! And if you see me bent over from the back, it's ROUND! So can you still wear stripes? Heck yeah!
Jean shorts that stop at the knee and a B&W mini strip top that flows away from your body - WOW! cool and comfy as well as great looking! Slide into great open clogs, add some stripey jewelry and a purse with both dots and stripes. Now grab those great red striped sunnies and go have some fun!
That's stylin'!

Your look in turquoise

Over50Styling! Not black and white? Nope... Your look in turquoise

Over50Styling!
White boot cut jeans topped by a chiffon blouse in the palest turquoise you can imagine. Slide into lovely Giuseppe Zanotti metallic turquoise mules. Grab a clutch in turquoise croc. And for the sparkle, add this lovely iridescent and goldtone necklace to catch all the light!

Hey mister, you see anybody come this way?

Over50Styling! This is my week for black and white, I think! It's been so fun! Hey mister, you see anybody come this way?

Over50Styling!
White jeans and a white top with a flutter of birds flying all over it called for a necklace of feathers. Aviator sunglasses and a panama hat add a bit of the sleuth to the outfit. The lovely Dolce & Gabbana handbag adds the class. And the B&W pattern flats add another pattern for a bit more interest, which is always fun!
That's stylin'!

POLKA DOTS - FLOWERS - BLACK&WHITE

Over50Styling! What better way to go with black than white? And what better way to go with polka dots than flowers? kiss my class

Over50Styling!
Yes, polka dots and flowers! Top this B&W polka dot pencil skirt with a white sleeveless front wrap blouse. Finish that off with a floral print bomber jacket, and don't forget to push up the sleeves! Add the gorgeous vintage pink and black collar for color. Slip into the Ivanka Trump floral pumps for more wonderful flowers! And dream about that lovely little Chanel clutch, because at that price that's all we can do, but I just couldn't resist it. There are lots of statement clutches out right now that could be substituted for it. This one just too much fun to pass up!

Romance comes in many colors...

Over50Styling! This skirt and blouse is just so elegant, you just want to have a romantic dinner! Romance comes in many colors...

Over50Styling!
A royal purple chiffon blouse and a midi skirt in black with royal purple and cobalt blue flowers is a really lucious combination! It doesn't need much to complete it. I added a beaded necklace in the blue tone, a clutch and pumps in the blue tone as well. This outfit calls for a special event! The red rose was for the lady herself.

A Great Daily Look!

Over50Styling! How's your daily look this Thursday? Are you wearing a LBD? How about something not a LBD? Hmmm? A Great Daily Look!

Over50Styling!
It's Thursday so it should be a LBD, but it's spring and that makes it so hard to really think in terms of LBDs. This is close, though! Today is a great day to mix plaids and prints!
Black leather culottes with a red and black abstract print tank topped by a black plaid duster with 3/4 sleeves. Red Chanel shoes and a red and black Minnie print bag sharpen up the look. And red and black jewelry add some fun!
That's stylin'!

Renewal

Over50Styling! Spring is the time of renewal! Renewal

Over50Styling!
Yes, spring is when the earth sends up its new growth and mends the damages of winter. It renews itself. It's my favorite season of the year when everything is fresh and growing. It makes me feel more alive and gives me hope.
It makes me think of little girls in their Sunday best with pretty dresses and hats all smiling. Moms standing around chatting after church in their Sunday best, white gloves and hats, dresses and high heels. All of them looking so ladylike! And that's what this outfit makes me think of for some reason. The lines of the culottes and the flow of the blouse are so feminine. Then there's the bow on the kitten heeled pumps. And the pink accessories. It all just feels very ladylike and feminine. So springlike!
That's stylin'!

Soft Tropics

Over50Styling! Yes, it's time for our tropical floral print blouses! Soft Tropics

Over50Styling!
No wardrobe is complete without one! You know, those large print, tropical floral shirts, usually referred as Hawaiian shirts. Now that it's offically spring and the weather actually is starting to feel that way, we can wear them!
Khakis and tropical floral shirts just seem to go together. Leave the shirt open and wear a khaki camisole style top underneath to create a longer line for a slimming effect. When you wear one color from head to ankle, you appear slimmer and taller. If the shoes were a nude color, it would enhance the effect even more. However, I decided this needed a pop of coral to liven it up. And added a mint green and white handbag as well. And don't forget copper aviator sunglasses for sasss!
That's stylin'!

It's just a white blouse!

Over 50Styling! Well, yes, it's a white blouse... It's just a white blouse!
Over50Styling!
Yes, it's a white blouse, but what a great white blouse! Made from ramie for coolness, cut slim for style. The v-neck has an almost shawl collar, while the hem is asymmetrical on the sides to add some volume to the bottom. The blouse is so great, the rest of the outfit must be simple. Slim khaki cigarette trousers and a beige waterfall coat. Beige kitten heeled pumps with an asymmetrical bow. A straw handbag. Simple gold hoop earrings for class.
Or you could do slim cut cigarette trousers in black and black ballet shoes with small diamond stud earrings.
That's stylin'!

walkin' in paradise

Over50Styling! Off on a cruise or some tropical vacation? walkin' in paradise

Over50Styling!
If you've got some tropical destination in mind, this is just what you need. White cigarette trousers with slit ankles and a filmy gold and white caftan. Slip into gold flats. Add a stack of gold bangles for the jingle and add a pearl and gold ear cuff with a pearl stud. Top it with a gold dusted floppy sun hat. Grab this great little accent handbag for interest.
That's stylin'!

Spring takes flight!

Over50Styling! White in the spring and lots of mint to keep us cool! Spring takes flight!

Over50Styling!
And it's white again! This time boot cut jeans with a Donna Karan NY wrap blazer. A lacy mint shell sets off the white nicely. As do the soft mint pumps. Pretty mint and crystal jewelry keeps things sparkly. And the handbag add a touch of interest.
That's stylin'!

Sparkling White

Over50Styling! Spring is when we really get out the white white clothes! Sparkling White

Over50Styling!
We wear white all winter long, but not like we do as soon as spring comes. This is when we dig out the all white stuff that takes bleach and sunshine to keep it sparkling white!
Here we have cropped cigarette trousers and a sheer linen blouse in a wrap style with an uneven hem line that drapes to the knees at the longest point. It has a 3/4 length sleeve and a fairly low cut neckline that you might want to put a camisole into. But use a lacy lingerie style one with this blouse, not a utilitarian spandex one. I added a gold and rhinestone star pin at the wrap neckline and gold and rhinestone hoop earrings for more sparkle. A white and lucite structured bag keeps things clean and sharp. I added metallic magenta strappy heeled sandals for a color accent for two reasons. One, I really liked the way the color looked with all that white. And, two, I really hate white shoes. Sorry, I was a waitress when I was a teenager and ever since then I really hate white shoes. You probably will not see too many white shoes in my designs. And this one just begged for a pop!
That's stylin'!

Oops! Technology does it to me again!

I'm sure you've noticed that some of my posts recently have my commentary and some of them do not. Well, it seems that the technology bug has been nibbling at me again and sending things straight to posting rather than allowing me to schedule my posts with commentary. I think I have it under control now. I apologize for the mix up! That little bug sure is an independent little cuss! I certainly don't mind having him around as long as someone lets me know when he changes his routine and how it will effect what I do!
Thanks for stopping in! Have a wonderful week!

An outfit meant just for a Monday!

Over50Styling! Blue and white always makes such a lovely combination! Pretty Crisp Fresh

Over50Styling!
Blue and white makes such a fresh, crisp combination! It brings to mind laundry straight off the line when we used to hang it out on the line outside. Dating myself a bit, huh? Yeah, but those sheets always smelled so good! And that's what I always think of with a blue and white combination.
A white cotton top tucked into a gathered blue print midi skirt. Top it with the iciest blue sweater. A charcoal gray bucket bag to bring out the color in the skirt and blue shoes to match the skirt. I added these wonderful blue earrings because I thought they were so lovely - I guess so! I didn't check on their price until the set was published - OUCH! Sorry, I don't usually use things in that price range. But they are lovely!
That's stylin'!

You'll be amazing in this today!

Over50Styling! For an amazing Monday, this will do it! Romantic Spring

Over50Styling!
A sweet mint camisole and a dark green cardigan to a lovely print midi skirt that will put you in a romantic mood! A minimal pink statement necklace brings out some of the pink from the skirt. Mint pumps and clutch keep the tone going. Now surprise someone special and sweet for lunch!

Take your clogs uptown!

Over50Styling! Two of spring's big trends! The sleeveless coat and the updated clog! Will you be adding these to your wardrobe? Take your clogs uptown!

Over50Styling!
These two trends can be worked into a wardrobe very easily as they are available at all price levels. The sleeveless coat can be worn as a long vest over a long sleeved top as I have shown here in cooler weather for a more formal look. Or, once the weather warms up, it can be worn over sleeveless tops so that only bare arms show for an even more trendy look.
The clogs are back and they are showing up in lots of styles and shapes. Some of them look just the way we wore them in the 70s. Others look very different. Some I would be hard pressed to say they are clogs. The pair I've shown above are a nice nude leather color and can be worn as you would almost any other nude shoe. It has the same effect for the most part of elongating the leg. It won't do it as well as a nude pointed toe stiletto, but it will do it better than a black ballet flat.
That's stylin'!
