Red and Pink on White

Over50Styling! Take a plain white dress and toss a bunch of red and pink flowers across it and what have you got? One great look! Red and Pink

Over50Styling!
Red and Pink are a trendy mix this season in prints and in seperates. This dress puts them together very nicely and in a great style that wears comfortably as well. I added red drop earrings and red kitten heel pumps to make red the primary color. I couldn't resist this fun box handbag in red, white and black by Mark Cross. And, of course, black cat-eye sunnies. The white scarf at the neck is a thin shawl that can be tossed around you neck for cool breezes or wrapped around your arms for lowering temperatures.

Denim on Yellow

Over50Styling! Denim jackets go with everything and come in so many styles! Denim on Yellow

Over50Styling!
Have you ever found a dress you really liked, but for some reason just couldn't quite see yourself in it? Is it too precious? This dress is like that for me. I love all the colors in it and the design and patterns in the fabrics. The sweetheart neckline with the cap sleeve is what does it for me. Too precious. But it's a fabulous dress! Well, I don't wear cap sleeves because of the lack of tone in my arms, so "what can I wear over it" is my first thought. Yup! A denim jacket! And this style of this denim jacket is perfect! It has a very feminine style to it, so it goes very well with this dress. It's a short jacket and shows off the lovely lines of the dress very nicely.
I added some pretty yellow stone earrings for shine, a yellow bag and light coral pumps with a kitten heel.
That's stylin'!

Denim on Denim

Over50Styling! On trend this spring is denim on denim. It can be jacket on jeans, shirt on jeans, jackets on cut-offs, or like this, jacket on shirt! Denim on Denim

Over50Styling!
Denim on denim is a great look. In this case, jacket on shirt, it's a way of taking a typically more formal piece and making it more casual. The beige pencil skirt, cornerstone of the working girl's wardrobe, looks fabulous with denim pieces. It looks good in and out of the workplace. So lets borrow the working girl's skirt!
The skirt and the shirt: tuck in the shirt and you have a nice lean, clean look OR untuck the shirt and you have a more casual look. In this case, be sure the shirt fits smoothly. You don't want a baggy look. That would be sloppy with this overall outfit. Button the shirt all the way to the top. Tuck a statement necklace under the collar of the shirt. It should lie between the collar points. I added earrings to coordinate with the necklace.
Pop on the jacket and fold back both shirt and jacket cuffs together.
Shoes with a kitten heel in a coordinating tone to the shirt to elongate the leg and a clutch in a denim tone.
That's stylin'!

Looking Forward to Sunday

Over50Styling! Don't forget that Sunday is Easter! If you celebrate it, you'll want to look your best whether you do a stay-at-home casual day or an all out more formal do. I'll be showing you some ideas all week! Looking Forward to Sunday

Over50Styling!
If Sunday is a fancy Easter celebration for you or you have a special event coming up, this is a wonderful look to consider. Or one like it. A dress and matching jacket in a lovely spring print will take you anywhere. Add in pretty lacy pumps with a bow on a low heel that you will be able to stand in for hours if you need to. And a handbag as pretty as the spring leaves themselves. A discreet sparkle in pretty pink and green stone earrings finishes the look. Smile for the camera!

Monday is Always Amazing!

Over50Styling! Mondays are the beginning of a whole new week! You get to look forward to a fresh start each Monday, so look amazing for it! Monday is Always Amazing!

Over50Styling!
Another simply amazing look can be had right here with this wonderful dress and cardigan sweater. The print of the dress is simply fabulous with all its colors. You could pull any colors you want from the dress to use for sweater, shoes and bag. I chose the green to keep things calm. Calm it may be, but it's still lots of fun! The dress has its great print. The sweater is cozy for the cooler times and has big pockets and no buttons. The shoes have that great bow detail with the black edging. The bracelet is all fun with it's twisty shape. And the bag has its wonderful color pop in orange. It's amazing and it's stylin'!

Amazing for Monday!

Over50Styling! Happing Monday! The beginning of a whole new week, simply amazing! What wonderful things can we accomplish this week? Amazing for Monday!

Over50Styling!
I couldn't resist this flapper-ish style dress when I saw it! But I didn't want a flapper look. I wanted an amazing Monday look! So here it is. Top the dress with the standard denim jacket. You know the one, a little bit boxy and nicely faded now from wearing and washing because it was the first one we all bought. Turn back the cuffs. Add a purple statement necklace and purple chandelier earrings to define the chosen main color. Now slip on these great patent and suede kitten heel pumps. Slip on a wonderfully gorgeous purple ring (this one is Bulgari, so it really is wonderful). Add sunnies in a blue tone to break up the purple and grab a green handbag for the same reason. Now, you have the flapper feel in the dress because of the pleated effect around the bottom. So go out and share that flirty feeling with the world! And if you can do it in an old pink Chevy, so much the better!

A Spring Jaunt

This outfit will go anywhere and look sharp! It's really just jeans and a top with little flats. But with the addition of the stunning blazer by Roberto Cavalli, it has class and is so much more. A Spring Jaunt

Over50Styling!
That's what styling as all about. Taking some common things and adding one uncommon thing to make it all wonderful! The one uncommon thing doesn't have to be an expensive Roberto Cavalli blazer. It could be a inexpensive scarf in a lucious coral floral that brings an outfit to life. Or it could be the perfect shade of green shoes that add that "just so" touch to an outfit. Or those perfect earrings to sparkle at your ears. That's what styling is all about!

Youth has no age.

"Youth has no age" was a saying by Pablo Picasso. I take it to mean that youth really is a state of mind rather than a number or a date. That doesn't mean you are 18 or 29 or whatever you consider to be the ideal age. It's not attached to any number. It's a feeling of being active and involved with life. Open to life and what it has to offer and what you can learn. Also being open to what you have to offer others. Open your mind and your heart and live life. That's youth! You only get old when you close your mind and your heart and stop living and loving.Youth has no age.

This outfit makes me want to go and do! It's casual and comfortable looking! It's designed to be fun and to live in while looking good!

Polka Dots, Stripes & Checks

Polka Dots, Stripes & Checks

Over50Styling!
Here's a great mix of patterns to stay on trend. I always love a mix of B&W patterns and prints. This time it's all geometric patterns. A buffalo plaid, stripes and polka dots! I've grounded them all with sparkling white straight leg jeans. The only sparkle is the pair of heart earrings from shoppe23.com. Check them out for really snazzy jewelry at low prices.
And that's stylin'!

SHOPPE23.COM is an on-line jewelry source that sells some very lovely pieces. This particular pair of errings happen to be sold out since this set was shown on Polyvore. However, they have many equally as lovely styles that I will be showing in coming sets. Or you can go to their site at www.SHOPPE23.com

Black on Black

Black on Black

Monochromatic is a very slimming way to dress. It can be any color, too. I just happen to have a black on black combo. This could just as well be red on red. It would still be slimming. However, it would send a totally different message.

A lovely Spring Mix

Complementary Colors for Spring

Spring in Olive Green and Sky Blue

Spring in olive and pale blue

Spring in olive and pale blue by soofiia

This casual outfit is really basic, but so comfortable and attractive. To spiff it up some, you could change out the sneakers for say a pair of espadrilles in blue. Perhaps adding some jewelry or a scarf would also add some interest to this outfit. And a hangbag, of course.

Accessories Can Add More Prints

If you haven't tried mixing prints before, this is an easy way to do it. The pants are floral, but the top and cardigan are solid, as are the shoes. However, the face of the watch is floral and the clutch is another floral. The prints are all very similar and work well together.

If the weather isn't cool enough to require the sweater, tie it around your shoulders to add the color since it goes so well with the rest of the ensemble. Wear the shirt tail out with or without the sweater. The shoes are a lovely touch with the outfit, but a lower heel or flats could be substituted easily.

Shades of Olive Green

With a camisole like this, the jacket would be worn as a blazer. It would be kept on indoors. I would suggest some jewelry to go with this outfit - gold chains and earrings would be quite attractive.

Basic Black with White

Over50Styling!

Welcome back! I'm sorry about the gap in my posts. Unfortunately, family needs required that I put the blog aside and attend my mother and stepfather. He is doing better now and things have settled down a bit. So, I am here again.

I would like to share some outfits with you that were put together by some other designers at Polyvore. I thought this might give you another way of looking at clothes appropriate for women our age. I hope you enjoy the ones I have chosen for you. They are all casual mid-week looks. There is one maxi skirt look, and the rest are slacks outfits. Most of these outfits show stilettos, where I would probably have chosen lower heels or flats. There is all white and all black. There is layering that is almost still a winter look and there is camisole and light sweater which is almost a summer look. So there is some of everthing in these nine looks. But they all have something to offer to us. They push us to put different colors together, to add accessories we might not consider on our own, and to go beyond our normal comfort zone. I think of it as "play". I think a woman needs to do that every once in a while to try new things and see what looks good. You can't tell just looking at something on a dummy or hanger. You need to put it on your own body and move. You need to see how it really works for you. You may be surprised!

Enjoy the stylin'!

Due to a family emergency, I will not be posting today or tomorrow. My stepfather has been hospitalized and my mother requires my assistance. I hope to return with posts on Monday, March 23, 2015. I appreciate your support and hope I can count on your return on Monday. I hope you enjoy your weekend.

It May Be Small, But It Has Big Ideas!

Downsizing: to take a whole family house full of possessions and stuff them into a senior citizen housing unit. So, how do you do it with your sanity intact? It May Be Small, But It Has Big Ideas!

Small spaces require a certain mindset. You are used to living in a whole house and have for probably most of your life. Now, you are about to move into a two or three room "unit". I learned a few things watching my mother go through this. I've started downsizing now, because to do it in the months just before you actually move is overwhelming.

But how do you approach decorating this unit? You need to think on a smaller scale. For instance, the small sofa is for seating three and would fit nicely in a unit. Think of side tables instead of a coffee table so that you retain traffic flow. Floor lamps and ceiling lights rather than table lamps. Your floor lamps should have a small footprint, though, so as not to be a tripping hazard. Bookshelves are for baskets to store things as well as your treasures on display. Baskets and boxes are great additional storage. Boxes and trunks on a small scale make great side tables. Additional storage is found!

Such units are usually carpeted in neutral colored carpet, so a colorful area rug will add color and define areas when walls don't. Use items that reflect light to keep a small space bright. Use a color scheme that can flow throughout your rooms with just some tweaks here and there. Eliminate clutter. Donate things to the common rooms like the library and games rooms. Has anyone found the secret to doing this without losing your cool?

I don't remember any hill, do you?

Over50Styling!
Does being over a certain age put you "over the hill"? What exactly does that imply? It sounds to me like you've worked hard to get to where you are and you should be having fun from now on. Well, that would be nice, now wouldn't it? But we all know that life doesn't work that way. Life's trials and tribulations come to you at any age. So get rid of the hill references and get on with life. I don't remember any hill, do you?

But trials and tribulations or not, life could be looking good in this outfit! For a change, I'm going to start at the bottom and work up! You can see, that I have the same shoes her as in the other outfit. That's because they are so versatile! Black leggings or skinnies, your choice. A tunic length red blouse with a shirttail hem. Top that with a B&W patterned kimono. Add red drop earrings that swing and don't forget this adorable handbag by Lulu Guinness with the face on it. Comfort, color, great looks!

That's stylin'!

Down Memory Lane, or Penny Lane, or...

Yes, it's another striped shirt, but this one takes us down a memory lane or two! Those four young men we all remember so well, who changed music history, The Beatles.   Down Memory Lane, or Penny Lane, or...

Over50Styling!
This is a hybrid - a striped Breton top crossed with a statement tee! That seems to be busy enough for anyone, I think! So I kept the rest pretty simple. White cigarette trousers. A white jacket with black belt reminiscent of a martial arts jacket. The jewelry is black and pointy to imitate the stripes. But I've added more stripes in the shoes with faux zebra on the flats. And the clutch is a statement one that simply says TAXI in bright yellow with a red ball clasp. So trot on down to Penny Lane in this outfit!

Just a bit Industrial

Do you like the Industrial Look in interiors these days? You see it done up so that some rooms look like the set for a Steampunk movie set. It's all dark leather furnishings and velvet hangings and massive stuff. So overwhelming and not the least bit like home. So how can you use it in a home?    Just a bit Industrial

Well, I started with the rug actually. Then added the small couch. Once I had added the coffee table, I had found my way. The beiges in the rug and couch are that nude beige that almost look pink but aren't. But once I put the stripped wood tones of the coffee table in there, it blended the plush aspect of those two pieces with the rougher aspect of the industrial look I was trying for. I added the wine bottle lighting experimentally and found that I really liked it. Not only did it bring in the green tones I wanted to add, but it added the sparkle of glass that I feel helps to keep this sort of look from getting too heavy. I found the folding screen quite by accident, but was very pleased with its addition to the room. The hardest thing to find was the wall clock. I wanted one that had that industrial look without being too industrial, and was a bit artsy as well. When I found this one, I wasn't sure until I added the metal planter with succulents and the hammered vase with the branches. Then the metals all felt comfortable together. Like calls to like, sort of. One more plant on the coffee table and a few throw pillows to add more color and I was done. I felt I had achieved an Industrial look that was really homey and livable! What do you think? Could you live with this room? Send my your thoughts by clicking on COMMENTS below. I'd love to hear from you!

I dreamed I took a walk in the park!

 Over50Styling!
In spite of a new inch of snow last night, the sun came out this morning and melted it all away today. Again the scent of spring is in the air, or at least the scent of hope of spring! How long before we can think about taking a walk in the park and looking at new green spring leaves and flowers budding up? How long before we don't need such heavy layers of clothes to stay warm? Already I choose my trench over my wool coat these days! But that's a stubborn New Englander for you!
I dreamed I took a walk in the park!

So what to wear when you can finally walk in the park? A sweet basic all dressed up is a great start for such things. A nude-beige shirt dress with a half sleeve. Button it all the way to the top and tuck a pretty flower necklace under the collar. Add flower earrings to coordinate. A denim jacket goes with everything, and this one is cut on the loose side. Tuck a pretty floral scarf around your neck, because it's bound to be a bit breezy! Add this bright yellow hat with its perky flower! Pop on your pretty pink sunnies, grab this lovely green paisley bag and slip into these two-tone pink pointed-toe flats. You're set for the park and whatever else awaits you there!

I usually don't recommend vintage for older women, but this vintage dress has such great lines that I just couldn't resist it! The beige and navy print is great with the solid navy trim. It has a rope belt, but I chose to add a navy patent leather belt instead. I paired it with navy pumps and handbag and gold jewelry for some shine. It's perfect for those days when you actually have to put on a dress but you don't want to be over-the-top.

We Decorate With & For Cats, & They Love It!

We Decorate With & For Cats, & They Love It!

The Contest said, "Decorate With Cats"
That was the theme for this week's home dec contest. Well, how could I possibly resist a contest like that?
This was the description on my submission:
I have two cats at this time. My house is decorated with their comfort and pleasure in mind. There are surfaces for them to lie around on in front of the window so they can watch the birds at the feeders. They are strictly house cats, so they only hunt in their dreams. I share my love seat with my cat, Buggy. She's the Russian Blue that I named my blog for. No one sits in her space, at least not without getting a very disgusted look from the diva! Cats love lava lamps, too! They are warm and are great for curling next to for winter naps. They are entertaining as well. Cats can sit and watch them for a very long time. I have a basket next to the love seat for cat toys. I don't pick up toys until the basket is completely empty. Of course, an empty basket is another sort of toy, especially one with paw sized holes in it. And do make sure your side tables or coffee table has a shelf for the cat(s) to sit on. They love to have a place up off the floor to watch people come and go! They find it terribly entertaining! It's also a great place to take a nap. And if your pictures are hung at tail height, be prepared to straighten them at least once a day. I just don't bother more than that! I am allowed to have a "Lil' Bub" stuffed cat in the house, but I was not allowed to have a "Grumpy Cat". They made their displeasure known and I had to give it away. And they like to see Nala on Facebook. Cats are very particular with whom they spend their time! :)

Trending: Graphic Clutch AKA Statement Clutch
"Statement" as in it has words on it, literally, a statement. They say all sorts of things from "Hello" to "#HASHTAG". A lot of them simply have a basic design on them such as lips or french fries. Others look like magazines or books. Still others are simply a very graphic design, along the lines of pop art. Most are square or rectangular, but there are some that are guitar or camera shaped.

This weekend, you can be graphic with or without your graphic clutch! Bootcut jeans and a graphic art tee. Top it with a graph paper plaid shirt. Slip into cute B&W graphic print flats. And pop that sweet B&W stripe straw hat on your head! The yellow scarf is for color and the gold jewelry is for shine!

Thursday's Moonlight Serenade in a LBD

Thursday's Moonlight Serenade in a LBD

Over50Styling!
And it's Thursday, so of course, this is a LBD! And what a LBD! This dress is structured to fit, or maybe it should be Fit. If you look closely and have good resolution on your monitor, you will see that it has seams for construction where most dresses only dream of seams. This dress is meant to fit your figure and make it the center of attention for miles around. So make sure you are ready for that kind of attention if you pursue this specific dress.
I added a cashmere sweater that is about as substantial as cobwebs and in a similar color. The shoes are a kitten heel sling-back in B&W with just a dash of teal green. I added a black leather clutch. And because of the dash of green on the shoes, I added green sparklies for jewelry. It's sort of a nod to St. Patrick's Day coming up soon. Going someplace special where you want to be noticed?

The smokey eye is the ultimate in make-up styling for any age. It does even look good on older gals done properly, as you can see above. I don't recommend it for everyday wear, but for evening and special occasion it's certainly worth learning how to do. There are lots and lots of great instructions for this around, so I haven't done any here. If someone is interested in my doing instruction for this here on the blog, just let me know by clicking on COMMENTS below and leaving me a note.

Earth Tones as Spring Comes Closer

Earth Tones as Spring Comes Closer

Earth Tones aren't just for Fall
Over50Styling!
Yes, you can still wear all those fall tones in the spring! Just add something to brighten it up a bit. I used the OD cargo pants and terracotta silk blouse as my basis. I added suede slingbacks with a kitten heel and a bright green clutch. The unstructured trench is just a shade off from the blouse and the sunnies are almost the same shade as the pants. So where does spring come into this? The bright green earrings that dangle down and flash! The lovely floral scarf at the neck with the pretty coral rose in it! And the cute straw hat with a matching coral rose on its brim. If that's not spring-y and fun, I don't know what is!

Organic Home Decor in Blue & Green

Organic Home Decor in Blue & Green

Organic Lines in Home Decor
If you take a look at this design you should notice that all the lines of furniture and furnishings are curved. Designs are all rounded and flowing, even natural. That's organic.
I started with the rug in this case and decided to stay as close to two colors as I could, not counting wood or white. I think I stayed within the parameters quite well this time.
I would love to see this room actually done up. The one accent wall done with the floral wallpaper and the other three walls in the soft blue tone. All the woodwork done in crisp white. Hardwood floors in a medium stain with a satin shine. The rug on the floor and this furniture there. It would need a couple of chairs in similar tones and white side tables as well. I think it would be a revitalizing room to spend time in.
