I hate to harp on this, but I see it so often that I feel it can't be said enough. If you wear eyeshadow and have lines around your eyes, don't wear shimmer shadows. The whole point of the shimmer in a cosmetic is to catch the light and attention. Do you really want the lines around your eyes to catch the attention of anyone?
By using matte eyeshadow, you can still use your color and in some respects contour away the results of the aging process, such as the little sag in the eyelid.
There is one place a bit of shimmer is a good idea these days. Try a blush with a hint of shimmer to it. The shimmer brings attention to your whole face and opens your face up. All of a sudden, people notice you again. I say this, because I keep hearing that older women feel invisible and overlooked. We are actually fading, so use your cosmetics wisely to counteract that problem.
Lipstick with shimmer or a lot of shine probably isn't a great idea either. Try the matte colors. You want the color to define your mouth, but not the shimmer or shine to draw attention to lines and such. Use a nude lip liner to outline your lips, then apply your lipstick. This will help keep your lipstick from bleeding into small wrinkles around your mouth. A touch of gloss at the center of the bottom lip is an old Marilyn Monroe trick to add the kissable pout factor.
