Beauty is Skin Deep
I'm sure each of you has a particular skin regimen that you follow daily. As a woman's skin ages it becomes more fragile, it thins and loses color. It develops spots and dry areas. It loses elasticity. It's no fun getting older, is it?! Things we took for granted when we were younger are now deserting us and no one is telling us how to deal with what we are left with. This aging outer layer is as rebellious as our bodies, and Lord knows they're doing strange things these days!
1. Keep it clean. Use something gentle and don't be harsh with the scrubbing and tugging. I use Aveeno daily scrub. It's soy based and is very gentle. I've used it for years and find it takes care of those little bumps that show up around the edges or where I put my fist when I lean on it to read things on the computer! In really dry winter weather, or if I've been out in the wind or cold, I use coconut oil to clean my skin. It cleans and moisturizes at the same time.
2. Keep it moisturized day and night. There are all sorts of moisturizers available, and it can take some time to find the right one for you. For daytime, I like Aveeno daily brightening lotion. It's light, but does the trick most of the time. When I'm really having dry skin issues, I use coconut oil. At night, I use one of those expensive 2-for-1 things. I won't give you the brand name, because I'm half convinced it's a scam. You have to mix the lotion and gel together and they work to tighten things up and reduce wrinkling and fine lines. Believe it or not, it really does work. I don't use it every night, but even using it 3 times a week, I get pretty good results. I try to use it sparingly because I can't afford the price they want to take out of my credit card each month to automatically send it to me.
3. Remember that your skin doesn't stop at your chin or collar bone! Moisturize your whole body! Anything you use on your face, should be used all the way down to your decolletage. It's really awful seeing a woman who has worked on her face and it's just lightly lined, but her neck and cleavage are wrinkled and unattractive. If your cleavage is very wrinkled, cover it. That's what all those pretty scarves and clothes are for!
