Always include an element of fun!

Always include an element of fun!

So many of the designs I see for home decor are so formal and serious. I look around my own home and realize that in each of my rooms, I have included some element of fun or whimsy. So I designed this set with a "touch" of a holiday theme and some fun.

I love throw pillows, so I always put lots of them in designs. I've been saving this pillow since last winter to use in a design and here it is. It's not red and green and shouting Christmas, but with its snowflake and Christmas quote, it's a bit understated and pretty. I also love snowmen. In fact, I collect them to the point that I have more than I can possibly display around the house and my family teases me about them. But, I saw this snowman picture on Pinterest and had to use it for the artwork here. It's so cheery and fun! But it doesn't scream in red and green either. That's the reason I chose that Father Christmas figure - no red or green. And the tree certainly isn't traditional.

Is that enough fun in one space? But what about when you pack all that away for the season? Well, you'll still have your wonderful little friend at your feet! That sheep ottoman was the perfect touch of fun and whimsy for the space (year 'round). Without him, it would be a slick, serious space in turquoise and grays. These touches are what give a space personality! They add the fun! And at the end of a weary day, you can put your feet up and smile!
How do you add fun to your spaces?
